One way the human mind’s ideation process can be understood is through the framework of gestalt theory. Gestalt theory is a psychological paradigm that can be applied to help understand phenomena as seemingly disparate as human motivation, aesthetics, and ideation. Gestalt theory reveals why the process of ideation is not limited to a single mind, and moreover, gives us a method for projecting ideation into a shared space. Finally, knowledge of gestalt theory helps us understand why in building a system to process gestalts we are modeling a very fundamental process of human intelligence.
