#researchlist LLM inference providers (2026) compared on $/M tokens, RPM/TPM limits, and real operating experience running CollabLists agents against each one. Includes web-search APIs too. ## What we concluded (2026-05-20) After running a multi-tool agent loop on Cerebras-primary and hitting token_quota_exceeded 429s on essentially every prompt, the operating recipe we landed on is: 1. **Anthropic Claude Sonnet 4.5 — PRIMARY.** With prompt caching (cache_control: ephemeral) on system + tools, cached input is billed at 10% rate after the first call. High TPM, native web_search, supports tool loops with long context. Slower per call (~2-5s) than Cerebras but reliably completes. 2. **Cerebras gpt-oss-120b — SECONDARY.** Use it for SHORT specialty tasks (validation, summarization, classification) where 3000 tok/s decode is genuinely useful. NOT a generalist primary — TPM constraints make long agentic loops fail. 3. **Fireworks AI — TERTIARY.** OpenAI-compatible, 356ms TTFT, plenty of TPM headroom on paid tier. Slot 3 of the fallback chain (after Anthropic & Cerebras, before Groq). 4. **Groq — FALLBACK.** Free tier 6K TPM is too low for production but useful when the first three all fail. 5. **Web search**: Brave (paid for general queries) + Anthropic-native (free, on Claude path). Brave wins 2026 benchmarks on agent score + latency + price. The big lesson: Cerebras is optimized for fast SHORT inference (their pitch) and is genuinely the best at that. Tell us a bit about yourself (essay or link to video) Hi! I’m an exuberant Web entrepreneur and MIT undergraduate studying Electrical Engineering/Computer Science and English Literature (2015). I’m passionate, above all, about the practice and philosophy of tai chi, which I see as inextricable from the enterprise of understanding, facilitating, and ultimately automating, intelligence. Furthermore, I see building systems to facilitate intelligent governance/collaborative creativity as laying the groundwork for strong AI. In 2012, just after I turned 20 and was made ineligible for the past Thiel Fellowship, these observations crystallized into an actionable vision, which I’ve been since building out, through the medium of research advised by MIT Prof. Tim Berners-Lee and Henry Lieberman. This past year, while I was studying abroad Oxford University (in their program in Computer Science and Philosophy), the first face of the project acquired a dedicated user base, and billionaire Nicolas Berggruen committed to invest. Something I know to be true that few others believe is that Facebook is the tip of the much larger iceberg that is the yet unrealized original vision of the World Wide Web, (particularly, the Giant Global Graph en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giant_Global_Graph). I explain more of my recent story in later sections. To share some of my more personal background, I’ve included a college essay, with forms of which I was accepted to MIT, Harvard, and Stanford, among other schools. (This essay can also be found posted under the pseudonym “John Smith” on the website admitsphere.org, which I started with my MIT roommate, a popular collaborative wiki of college essays and advice.) Please briefly elaborate on one of your extracurricular activities or work experiences in the space below or on an attached sheet (150 words or fewer). Every weekend after my karate class, I volunteer for an hour and a half teaching kids ages 3-12. The first class is the "Little Ninjas," who are just 3-5 years old. These are among my favorites to teach because they have no preconceptions or attitude. They look at you unjudgmentally and listen to what you have to say, and they will try out whatever you suggest. Sometimes they're timid at the beginning, but mostly they're just enthusiastic. Even though they are not usually all that skilled at doing the moves the first time around, I am always amazed to see what they can do after just a couple of weeks: they slide into shoulder rolls and throw spinning kicks more naturally than I do! It's refreshing to teach these little guys; their unbridled innocence makes it impossible for me to become frustrated or lose my smile. Personal Essay "Evaluate a significant experience, achievement, risk you have taken, or ethical dilemma you have faced and its impact on you." I never intended to hire anybody. In fact, I never sought to obtain employment myself. I was too busy having fun with computers to be bothered with any of that. But as soon as you know how to hit "ctrl-alt-delete," it seems everyone wants tech support, and one thing leads to another. All I'd done was befriend the shy, thick-spectacled, computer wizard in my seventh grade multimedia class. He spent most of his time furiously typing cryptic symbols (like "preg_grep('/^[\.a-z0-9]+@/i',$r)") into his dinosaur workstation, bewitching it to run with blazing speed, perform complex calculations, and produce slick graphics. Boggled but intrigued, I asked him to teach me how to do this. He pointed me to a few tutorials on the programming language PHP and showed me how to host files on a server, and I was on my way. It turned out to be a lot like magic: you typed commands in an arcane language and shazam! While the Internet currently has many tools to facilitate discussion of people and events, there is no centralized platform optimized to facilitate deep, collaborative thinking.Thus we started IdeaOverflow Idea Development Environment (IDE), an online system that facilitates collaborative cognition by, as a key feature, finding relationships between ideas inputted into a database. First, we contend that IdeaOverflow is a relevant, modern frame for the problem of strong artificial intelligence that refines the antiquated Turing test, and makes actionable Douglas Hofstadter’s theory that analogy is the core of cognition. [Second, we develop and apply theories of how humans make connections between ideas and use existing tools (MIT ConceptNet) to take the first steps towards implementing an idea-connection machine. We built a basic web platform, implemented two rudimentary algorithms that find conceptually related ideas, and we lay a road map forward. Even at this early stage, our algorithm often successfully makes relevant connections between ideas drawn from hackathonprojects.tk](http://hackathonprojects.tk/), a public, crowdsourced database of over 100 startup company/hackathon project ideas. Finally, in Section 3, we apply gestalt theory in a novel way to understand how individuals come up with ideas and apply this understanding to project the process of ideation into a shared space. We demonstrate how the platform as a whole can be used to create new good ideas. The great difficulty in pushing ideation into a shared space isthat people can only make connections between the ideas in their own minds. The ability to make these connections is a fundamental aspect of human intelligence. Talking to a friend working on a certain idea, a person can suggest related ideas and people that the collaborator should investigate. However, currently, when those ideas are stored in an external database rather than a single person’s mind, this ability to make connections is lost; static databases are not “intelligent”. As knowledge becomes increasingly distributed, we need to make connections between ideas that are not held in the mind of a single person, or even the minds within a personal network. We propose the following task as an alternative to the Turing Test: program an AI to emulate humans’ ability to find ideas related to a given idea. Given a database of ideas and an idea within the database, the program should find the top 10 to 20 ideas related to that idea, so that the resulting list is indistinguishable from that compiled by a team of humans who have spent extensive time evaluating the list for connections. Like a human collaborator, a system that could do this would suggest related ideas and people that a user should investigate. In this way, it could have a genuinely constructive and intelligent "conversation" with its users about the ideas they are working on. Better than any individual human collaborator, it would try to find the top 10 to 20 ideas out of the database of possibly millions, whereas a human can only search on a much more limited data set.

Ultimately, we plan for our custom web platform for facilitating these events to become a permanent feature of MIT and Harvard’s online learning platform EdX. But how do we actually get them to make these changes?" The Dalai Lama gave a surprising response: "We must tell them to be selfish." He then added that in doing so, however, we "must be wise-selfish, instead of foolish-selfish."  What he implied by this was that often, when we deeply reflect on our own desires, they change, and indeed become very reasonable. Thus, in order to live lives that are both individually fulfilling and globally harmonious, we must care for ourselves, but do so with cognizance of the deeper truth of our motivations. We must be selfish in a larger sense. Generally, in Vedic philosophy, this clear perception of what one actually wants -- the truth that remains when wrong thoughts roll off, is called vidya, meaning "right knowledge" in Sanskrit. The opposite of vidya is avidya, meaning unclear perception. These concepts are the basis for a very powerful framework for understanding human behavior. The fundamental concepts about the nature of human motivation that the Dalai Lama’s simple statement encodes within it make the forces guiding the lives of characters in The Brothers Karamazov strikingly apparent. By reading the text through the lens of Buddhist and Vedic philosophy, we can come to understand the potent cultural forces that drive them to take many seemingly irrational actions and personally relate to what they actually mean by their often metaphysical Christian philosophical claims. Background on Avidya and Buddhist/Vedic Philosophy The founding texts of Hinduism, the Vedas, derive their name from the Sanskrit word vidya, meaning “right knowledge.” Vidya is placed in contrast with avidya, which is “knowledge other than right knowledge,” mistaken beliefs. A closely connected concept is that of yoga. The word “yoga” comes from the Sanskrit word “yuj,” meaning to yoke, or to bring together. One meaning of yoga is to unite the mind and body, to unite thought and action. To practice yoga is to be fully present in every action. A person can be giving a lecture, but his mind can be elsewhere, perhaps thinking about what he is going to have for dinner; this is disunion. But if our thoughts are not elsewhere but here, if we take action with the whole mind, with awareness and energy -- “like we mean it” -- we can do things with sensitivity, joy, and creativity, and do them better each time. We can question why we are acting, pause, and come to a full understanding. We can reduce avidya. We can relax out of the strange rut of reactivity -- taking knee-jerk, meaningless actions -- that many of Dostoevsky’

What if we as students could tap into the ideas they, and wise older people looking back wishing they could be in college now, have? Current students would get awesome inspiration/creativity piped in 24/7, and those on the outside could have dreams they really care about achieved even if they can’t be here themselves. - At the same time those applying to college, by making clear their dreams, will gain a sense of what they actually want to do, from which can flow meaningful college essay content. Maybe they could even help current college students achieve those dreams, in the process doing something fun, productive, and worthwhile. Economics is the art of satisfying “unlimited demands with limited resources.” But if we list out our dreams, I think we might find that in a fundamental sense at least, they aren’t necessarily all that difficult to achieve, and that the harder problem is actually finding dreams that are inspiring and worthwhile to the first place.
