We use analogy in making connections between ideas: knowing what “Instagram” is (a site that allows immediate sharing of photos), we can guess what “Instaquote” is, and conversely, hearing descriptions of both ideas, we would be able to mentally find a relationship between them, and perhaps suggest a similar name for both. Hofstadter and Hutter’s argument hence justifies idea-linking as an alternative to the Turing Test.
